Afternoon Tea during the Kentucky Derby

On the first Saturday each May, the first horse race of the Triple Crown, often called the fastest two minutes in sports, is held at Churchill Downs in Louisville. This American institution has been celebrated for more than 140 years, and enthusiasts know that it is about much more than the two-minute run. In May, we will commemorate the classic event by hosting a tea party that embraces the traditions and customs tied to the memorable day with lovely menu items such as warmed flaky chicken salad croissant sandwiches and scones with lemon curd and Devonshire cream, not to mention the tier of homemade desserts. We encourage our guests to embrace the formality and choose an elaborately adorned hat to wear. The venue has “loaner” hats and gloves available to choose from as well. This is a great opportunity for the Women in the NAACP (WIN) to gather together and enjoy each other’s company and have a little horse race inspired fun! There will be a presentation about the history of High Tea, and about the NAACP WIN Committee. The $35 fee includes the 3-tier tray service, warm pots of loose leaf tea and a $5 donation to the Branch, a mini fundraiser. Members please RSVP to [email protected] or contact Christine at (208) 704-5504.
