The Art Spirit gallery is proud to showcase the new work of three accomplished artists of our region – oil painters Kathy Gale and Gordon Wilson and mixed media artist Michael de Forest. The opening reception will be held in conjunction with the ‘Chocolate Affair,’ presented by the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association. Join your friends and neighbors for both of these festive events.
Rarely on public display, the artist’s sketchbook captures drawings and ideas that serve as the foundation of the artistic process. And, in the words of artist Glenn Grishkoff, “these small visual tidbits of time and space allow for greater intimate connections for the birth of concepts and developing a unique style true to oneself.” The Art Spirit Gallery is grateful to its three featured artists as they share a handful of their private sketchbooks for viewing in this special exhibition. The opening reception will be held in conjunction with Music Walk, presented by the Coeur d’Alene Arts & Culture Alliance. Join your friends and neighbors for both of these festive events.
Show Date: March 9 – April 7, 2018
Opening Reception: Friday, March 9 from 5-8 pm in conjunction with Music Walk
Artist’s Informal Talk: Saturday, March 10 from 2 pm to 3 pm
Show Sponsor: Coeur d’Alene Summer Theater. We thank them for their support of the arts throughout our region.
Join us for an informal artist talk and Q&A with featured artist, Robert Grimes! All are welcome.
Robert Grimes, mixed media artist – Spokane, WA
Robert Grimes is celebrated throughout the Northwest for his intricate, three-dimensional paintings on carved wood that take on the aesthetic qualities of both painting and sculpture. For this exhibition, in addition to creating new work Robert has unearthed a number of pieces from his personal collection to showcase.
Robert received an MFA in sculpture from Indiana University. The Art Spirit Gallery has proudly exhibited his work since it opened its doors in 1997.
Join us to learn about the wild side of artist residencies with local watercolorist, Jessica L Bryant!
Jessica L Bryant is a frequent Artist-in-Residence for the National Park Service and the 2018 AiR for the Idaho Conservation League. Wilderness/outdoor AiR positions offer adventurous artists the opportunity for unparalleled experiences that provide unique depth of knowledge and context of subject matter to inspire work. Jessica will talk about her current residency, focused on Idaho’s rivers that fall under the protection of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, which was sponsored by Idaho Senator Frank Church and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. She will also share some of her experiences with the park service and the positive impact that AiR programs have for these natural spaces, the artist, the local community, and the artist’s home community.
A small sampling of Jessica’s diverse, often unexpected, experiences in residency for the NPS have included: assisting with a bison roundup, learning to identify and discover fossils in the field, spotlighting and trapping black footed ferrets for research (the most endangered land mammal in North America), working with scientists in the wilderness of Alaska’s Arctic lagoons, participating in sled dog training, field work with endangered Desert Tortoises, field education on highly protected archaeological sites, and countless miles of hiking across a vast diversity of ecosystems.
