Your Voice, Your Choice: Advance Care Planning Seminar @ Hospice of North Idaho Community Building
Apr 16 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

About this Event
Learn from experts in the community about Advance Care Planning, why it is important to have, and how to create a plan that will be meaningful to you and your loved ones.

Advance Care Planning is making decisions about the healthcare you want to receive in the event that you become unable to speak for yourself. Some examples of this include:

• Advance Directive

• Living Will

• Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare

Why This Program:

When it comes to medical issues, everyone wants to do the right thing – but it is not always clear what that is. Although it can be difficult to discuss your wishes, a little planning now will save those you care about from unneeded stress later. The best time to talk about the type of medical care you will want, is long before you will need it.

Audience:

This event is intended for all members of the community who would like to get started on their advance care plans. Ideal attendees might include individuals who have been diagnosed with a terminal or life limiting illness, retirees, new parents, newlyweds, and first-time homeowners.

Attend this free educational seminar and receive support at each stage of the planning process from trained providers throughout the community and have an opportunity to schedule a one-on-one visit to more thoroughly go over your options.

Agenda:

WHAT: Introduction to Advance Care Planning with Peggy Hodge LPN, Palliative Care Nurse.

WHY: Learn from estate attorney, Corey Smith, about why having advance care plans will benefit you and your family.

HOW: Get hands on training from Hospice of North Idaho’s Medical Director, Dr. Robert Ancker, on how to complete an advance directive

Did you know the first Earth Day Fair was in 1970. Although mainstream America largely remained oblivious to environmental concerns, the stage had been set for change by the publication of Rachel Carson’s New York Times bestseller Silent Spring in 1962. The book represented a watershed moment, selling more than 500,000 copies in 24 countries, and beginning to raise public awareness and concern for living organisms, the environment and links between pollution and public health.

Earth Day 1970 achieved a rare political alignment, enlisting support from Republicans and Democrats, rich and poor, city slickers and farmers, tycoons and labor leaders. By the end of that year, the first Earth Day had led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.

Much like 1970, Earth Day 2017 comes at a time of great challenge for the environmental community. With the possible dismantling of the EPA and several other bills in the works to reduce environmental oversight, this Earth Day celebration is just as important as the first.
